Minimize Heat Loss by Creating a Barrier Between Bare Feet and the Floor

July 19, 2009 00:07 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

SunTouch Floor Heating Mats Eliminate Cold Feet

My feet are always cold. I wear slippers in the summer. Granny slippers, as my husband affectionately calls them. Heat loss through my feet is a serious deal for me. When I visit my parents I turn green with envy because they have a heated tile floor. My feet wander around bare and free when we walk the halls of their remarkable heated tile floor. As I build my dream house in my mind, the tile and hardwood floors are sprawled over electric heated floor mats, and my granny slippers are tossed into a dusty forgotten corner.

It is simple really, to minimize heat loss through the feet; one must first create a barrier between bare feet and the floor. Using a heated floor mat creates that barrier is a cost-efficient, easy-to-install method of doing just that. Heating your floor with under floor radiant heating mats is a project that can often be done at any stage of home building. A heated floor is surprisingly simple to install under tile, hardwood, or even carpeted floor. Many people enjoy the benefits of a slipper-less existence. One day I will too! For now I better go schedule another visit to foot heaven, er, I mean my parent’s house.

Heating Small Floor Spaces

February 26, 2009 00:02 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

SunTouch Radiant Floor Heat is Ideal for Smaller Areas

Radiant floor heating is a wonderful addition to any home. Most homeowners believe that the installation of a heated floor is something best done during the initial construction of a home. The belief also exists that radiant floor heating be cast throughout the entire home, thereby maximizing the heating potential and benefits. The reality is that just about any floor can be retrofitted with radiant heat at any stage of home ownership.

There are many of us with smaller do-it-yourself attitudes that would love to walk into a small tiled bathroom or entryway and feel the same luxurious heat offered by a radiant heat floor system. Using SunTouch floor heating mats is a simple way to achieve heated tile floors in smaller spaces. If you have anywhere from one to five rooms, SunTouch may be a plausible alternative to a complete overhaul of your flooring.

Achieving warmth with electric radiant floor heat is easier than ever before. SunTouch floor heating systems are simple to install and have remarkably low start-up costs. An initial cost a buyer will incur up front is when they purchase an electric digital thermostat. These thermostats can usually be found for less than $200.

Heated floors in smaller areas are tackled by simply installing SunTouch mats directly onto concrete board or the subfloor just prior to setting the stone or tile. If the do-it-yourself spirit fails when you attempt this project, most tile setters already have experience with floor warming systems and can add it to their installation easily.

Use Less Energy This Spring

December 08, 2008 00:12 AM  BY  STUART TAYLOR

Here’s a question for you: how can you comfortably heat your home while also enjoying a reduction in energy usage? Through radiant floor heating by SunTouch ®, of course! Delivering heat by forced air makes allows heat to escape and increase your overall heat loss. However, heating through radiant heat is more efficient, which allows homeowners to turn down the thermostat two to four degrees.

Naturally, turning down a thermostat can reduce energy costs by 10-40%.This setback to your thermostat can happen because a radiant floor heats from the ground up and delivers the heat through objects not air. This makes the lowest three feet of your home the most comfortable where a forced air system loses its heat to the ceiling and is required to heat from the top down.

Believe it or not, the installation of SunTouch radiant floor heating is not a new development in the housing industry. Heated floors have been installed under bathroom and kitchen tile in the United States for the past decade and the warming products continue to gain popularity.

Heating Tip: Many in the kitchen and bath industry expect floor heating systems to continue to play a big role among homeowners who crave comfort features, while reducing energy costs – Which is something SunTouch can help you with.

One bonus to the heating systems offered by SunTouch is that it can be installed under almost any type of flooring, including tile, hardwood, carpet, and marble. The products you’d need to install the heating would be dependant upon what type of flooring you’d be installing it under.

One of the most popular SunTouch heating products are floor warming mats. The Mats include a red heating cable woven into an adhesive-backed fiberglass mesh that allows for simple roll-out installation without worrying about heating cable spacing. SunTouch floor warming mats are pre-terminated for use with 120 and 240 volts, and are available in various lengths of 24″ widths to accommodate any room’s layout. The tile floor warming mats emit no measurable electromagnetic fields due to the shielded dual conductor design.
