Looking at the Many Added Benefits

October 29, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STUART TAYLOR

One might think that the even and constant warmth of SunTouch ® floor heating would be enough of a benefit to persuade homeowners.  But the great news is that there are a number of other benefits of electric floor heating systems.  Some of the more popular benefits that SunTouch systems offer include:

Silent operation. There’s no hum or whistle of a forced air system to wake light sleepers at night.

Energy savings. Evenly distributed heat from a radiant floor heating system can allow the thermostat to be set two to four degrees less than in a forced-air heating system. This can reduce energy costs by 10 to 40 percent.

A healthier home. Forced air systems can spread dust, pollen, and germs. Dust mites and molds love carpet but don’t like warmth. European research performed in 21 households shows a 50 percent to 80 percent reduction in domestic dust mite populations in the households with radiant floor heating, thereby improving the quality of life (particularly for allergy sufferers).

Even, quiet warmth. Even wood, tile, or uncovered concrete floors can benefit from a radiant system.

Last (but never least),  SunTouch floor heating products are also very energy efficient. Furthermore, because it is under the carpet or floating wood and over the foam pad, it provides additional insulation from the cold sub-floor, which allows your floors to retain heat better, and requires less energy to heat your room. SunTouch floor warming mats are constructed of an ultra thin heating wire that exists in four layers of foil, quickly and efficiently distributing heat. With the increased efficiency of SunTouch heating products you can heat a 120-square-foot area for about 40 cents a day on average.

Heated Floors Offer Health and Efficiency

October 27, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STUART TAYLOR

Recently John Thiffault of Carriage Lane Homes was  recognized by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for building homes that maximize health and efficiency.  So what is it about Thiffault’s homes that set them apart from other homes, and make them safer and more efficient?  Well, using floor warming mats to heat the home is the primary way he does this.

Health Benefits.  Floor warming mats, which provide radiant heat, improve the air quality, This is especially important for anyone who suffers from either dust allergies or asthma. Floor heating provides ample heat alleviating a breeding ground for germs to multiply not to mention the added benefit of not having change filters or clean heat ducts.

Health experts also claim that floor heating via floor warming mats can help in eliminating dust mites that live in our homes, and since dust mites love a warm moist environment, towel heaters aid in maintaining a consistent room temperature and keep it moisture free. Furthermore, mold and mildew are also caused from excessive moisture especially in bathrooms with insufficient ventilation.  By placing radiant heaters or a radiant heat towel rack in the bathroom you can combat the spread of germs for only pennies a day.

Efficiency. Radiant heaters are also on of the most efficient form of heat available. Significantly less operating time is required to maintain the desired warmth compared to furnaces and other methods of heating keeping operational costs to a minimum. High efficiency boilers or electric radiant floor systems makes radiant heat one of your most efficient ways to heat your home. Coupled with a well insulated home these systems can quickly warm your home and then shut down or wait idle for long periods of time before being called upon by the thermostat to operate.

"Green" Home Heating

October 26, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STUART TAYLOR

Building “green” is about energy efficiency, but it is also about using durable materials that won’t need to be replaced in a few years (for example, metal roofing instead of shingles). Both aspects can put a little green in your wallet over the long haul. This is especially true with radiant heating products like floor warming mats.

Floor warming mats are one of the hottest green features being installed in new homes these days. Getting out of bed and stepping onto a warm bathroom floor is a luxury, to be sure. However, these floor warming mats are also much more efficient, which will lower your energy consumption, thus saving you some “green” as well.

“There’s getting to be more and more people asking about it,” said Steve Overholser, part of the husband-and-wife team that owns Tiffany Homes. He installed radiant in-floor heat in one of his green houses that was featured in a parade of homes. Floor warming mats are not only helping save energy, but these reduced energy costs will pay for floor warming mats many times over. If you’re serious about saving money, and cutting down on energy consumption, radiant heating is a great place to start.

Get Some Peace and Quiet this Winter

October 25, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STUART TAYLOR

Of the many benefits of floor warming mats, their quiet operation is one of my favorite things about them. Don’t get me wrong, being able to show off my slate floors without having to cover them up with rugs (to keep my feet warm), along with the energy I save are all right up there on the list of reasons that I love my floor warming mats. However, I just love the peace and quiet they bring. No more noisy forced air systems, no more slamming doors with pressure increases as the forced air kicks in. Instead, I have peace and serenity all day long. There’s nothing like curling up with a book and not be startled half to death as the door slams behind you. If you’ve currently in a home with a forced air system, you know exactly what I’m referring to. If your home has a forced air heating system, you may think that there is no way to install radiant heating without tearing everything up at considerable expense. You’d be wrong.

Today’s systems can be easily retrofitted to fit almost every application. Furthermore, they are very inexpensive, and will save you a lot of money on heating and electricity bills. To find out how you can benefit from floor warming mats, contact the knowledgeable staff at SunTouch ®.

Go Green with SunTouch's Help

October 25, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STUART TAYLOR

If you’ve been listening to the news at all over the last year I’m sure you’ve heard all the talk about alternative fuels, etc. Due to concerns about global warming, more and more people are looking for ways to go “green.” With that come some opportunities for other alternatives as well, including alternative heating systems such as those offered by SunTouch ®.

There are a number of alternative heating systems out there that can help you in your quest to conserve energy and reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere. One of these heating systems is SunTouch radiant floor heating.

Radiant heaters, as opposed to warm air systems (such as a forced air unit heaters), deliver the source of heat to the floor level, not the ceiling. Using radiant energy is on of the oldest forms of heating. This type of heat is excellent at providing comfort and is the basis for all heating systems. Radiant energy is totally pure radiation and is absorbed by an object without physical contact with the heat source or by heating the surrounding air, as is the case with convective, forced air systems. Because radiant heating systems work more efficiently, you end up using less energy, while maintaining a more comfortable living space.

If you’re looking for a cost effective, eco-friendly way to heat your home, then check out the many options for radiant heating systems. For more information, contact the staff at SunTouch.

Get Heat Where You Need It Most

October 24, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STUART TAYLOR

Whether you’re looking to reduce your electricity bill to reduce the strain on your pocketbook, or just concerned about energy usage in light of environmental issues, you can start with your heating systems. Heating our places is one of our greatest energy hogs. By taking a few steps, you can cut down the amount of electricity you use to heat your home. You’ll save money, as well as have a favorable impact on the environment.

Get heat where it’s needed . I remember a conversation I had with my grandpa a couple of years ago when he was complaining about his gas bill after a cold winter. What surprised me is that the money he and my grandma spent heating their home for the two of them was almost the same we spent heating our house for a full family. Why? Because many forced air systems are inefficient, and don’t provide a way to heat specific rooms, while bypassing rooms that are used less frequently. The ability to heat only the rooms you use could save you a lot of money during cold winter months. It doesn’t make sense to heat a guest bedroom that is used a few times a year. However, most forced air systems don’t give us a choice.

This problem can be easily solved, however, by utilizing radiant heat in the form of floor warming mats. Floor warming mats give you the ability to heat specific rooms, without heating other rooms that are used less frequently. Not only are floor warming mats extremely efficient, but the ability to heat only the rooms you use the most will help cut your heating bills, sometimes by as much as half.
